What is Counselling for the Individual & who is it for?
We are all unique and complex individuals. We have our own personality and opinions but we are also influenced by the people and situations we experience. There are times when our experiences can cause problems; our thoughts and responses don’t match up with the way we want to think and behave. Maybe you are stuck in unhelpful habits you want to change, or are unsure how to manage your emotions positively. You may have been through a big change and need to focus on how that has affected you. Time and Space offers you a place to talk about what’s going on and work out how to move forward positively.
Any issue which is creating problems for you can be brought to counselling but these are some of the more common issues I work with:
This service can help with the following symptoms:
- Stress
- Self-esteem/confidence
- Communication
- Boundaries
- Bereavement/loss
- Bullying
- Managing emotions inc anger issues
- Personal development
- Loneliness
- Personal identity

How can talking to a counsellor help make things better?
Maybe you have already talked to friends or family but have come away feeling no better. Sometimes you may not feel able to fully express how bad you feel; you don’t want to burden them or make them worry so you play things down. Maybe you can’t find the right words to express yourself or to ask for the help you need. You might be concerned that talking openly will make lead to conflict that you don’t feel able to deal with.
Counselling gives you a place which is safe and confidential. You never need to hold back and there will be no judgement about your situation. You can express yourself fully and honestly without fear; being able to release pent-up feelings can be liberating and is an important step to feeling better.
Through our work together you can gain a better understanding of yourself, how you relate to other people and what is important to you. You can also find your voice, to communicate clearly and meet your needs as well as the needs of others. Often, as emotional distress lessens, so do physical symptoms of that upset which will add to your general well-being. I am here totally to support you.
